Grisey: le temps et l’écume

From Grisey’s fascinating catalogue, always linked to harmonic and temporal experimentation, there is a little-known work, but which radiates all the radicalism and artistic force of his creations: Le temps et l’écume (Time and Foam), for four percussionists, two synthesisers and chamber orchestra, with which Grisey, through ‘rhythmic noise’ (as he called it), sifts the perception of time.

The programme is completed with three contrasting works, albeit close to Grisey’s world of sound: Georg Friedrich Haas, the interesting Catalan composer Octavi Rumbau, and the chamber version of Prélude a l’après-midi d’un faune, a work with which Debussy collapsed all conceptions of harmony, rhythm and timbre.

Programme

Georg Friedrich Haas: Tria ex uno for six instruments (2001)
Octavi Rumbau: En suspensió for vibraphone and electronics (2019)
Claude Debussy: Prélude a l’après-midi d’un faune (1891-94; arr. Paolo Fradiani, 2014)
Gérard Grisey: Le temps et l’écume for four percussionists, two synthesizers and chamber orchestra (1988 -1989)
