A varied, festive, and virtuosic program, close to the Central European tradition of salon orchestras.
These instrumental ensembles, very popular in Central Europe, performed music both in private salons and in dance halls.
The instrumentation was highly flexible, both in terms of the number of musicians and the types of instruments used. In the vast majority of cases, the core consisted of a string ensemble with piano.
In our case, we add the flute (following the Viennese tradition) and the clarinet (following the Berlin tradition), completing the ensemble’s “magic formula” with an accordion.
The concert follows the idea of a potpourri program, also typical of salon music, and resonates with the spirit of Cocteau’s manifesto “Le coq et l’arlequin”, advocating for music that is simple, light, charming, and pleasant, in contrast to the more “complex” aesthetics prevalent at the beginning of the 20th century.
